I was playing around with an image I took during some stormy weather--adjusting the contrast and what-not. In a fit af childish pleasure, I out did the contrast and came out with this gem, seemingly form the atomic era. BOOM!

I think Santa Barbara or somewhere was shelled during WW II by the Japanese forces and the airports around here were all military. Point Mugu is near my house (naval base) and we can see rockets launched from Vandenburg.

I played a bit more with the image (thanks to some comments) and came out with these:

well nice job with the clouds, you've done well with the colors
on the left side you can see some sharp edges, i dont know where from, and yes, blur the edges of the city, or make them transparent.

I see a big quality problem in this one - doing such changes always ends in a big quality loss and as the original photo was badly compressed, quality is even worse. You can easily spot this in the left of the picture. My proposal would be that if you come across such a scenery the next time, you take around 5-10 shots next to each other and lateron stitch them to a big panorama (around 4000-5000 pixels wide at least), then the quality loss would not be that bad and especially not that visible in the resized version.
